PDF to JPG Converter

Save the pages of a PDF as JPG pictures for slides, chats or image editors. ClearConvert draws each page inside your browser, so the document stays on your device.

How to Turn PDF Pages Into JPGs

  1. Open ClearConvert with the button below and drop your PDF on the drop zone. “JPG images (.jpg)” is already chosen as the output.
  2. Choose the resolution: Screen (72 DPI), Standard (150 DPI) or High (300 DPI). See how DPI changes pixel size and file size.
  3. Choose the quality: Good (85%), High (95%) or Maximum (100%).
  4. Leave Pages empty to convert every page, or type the pages you want, for example 1-3, 5, 8- (where 8- means page 8 to the end).
  5. Press Convert and download the result.

What You Get

Each selected page becomes one JPG. If you asked for a single page, you get that picture directly, named after the PDF and the page: report.pdf, page 2, gives report-page-2.jpg. Several pages arrive together in one ZIP file, report-pages.zip, with the pictures numbered report-page-001.jpg, report-page-002.jpg and so on.

The picture size follows the page size and the resolution. An A4 page gives 596 × 842 pixels at 72 DPI, 1241 × 1754 at 150 DPI and 2481 × 3508 at 300 DPI. Every picture has a white background, even where the PDF page itself has none, and pages that are turned in the PDF come out the way a PDF viewer shows them.

The Options

Resolution. At 72 DPI one pixel stands for one point of the page. 150 DPI gives about twice as many pixels in each direction, and 300 DPI about four times as many.

Quality. The JPEG quality setting: 85, 95 or 100 percent.

Pages. Ranges and single pages separated by commas, in the same style as the PDF split tool, plus open ranges such as 8-. A page number past the end of the document gives a clear message instead of a half-finished result.

None of these choices is saved. Reload the page and you are back at 150 DPI, 95% and all pages.

Which PDFs Work

Text documents and scanned PDFs both work, because every page is drawn as a picture rather than read as text. Asian scripts such as Japanese are drawn too. A password-protected PDF has to be unlocked first: the page says so and does not ask for the password. A damaged file, or something that is not a PDF at all, gets a message instead of a download.

The PDF is never uploaded. Once the page has loaded, the conversion even works with the internet switched off.

Privacy

A PDF can carry a title, an author name and other details in its metadata. None of that is copied into the pictures: each JPG holds only the image of its page. The page keeps no record of what you converted, and your options are forgotten when you reload.

Limits

One run handles up to 300 pages; for a longer document, convert it in parts with the Pages field. Very large pages, such as an A0 poster at 300 DPI, are scaled down to the browser’s limit of about 16.7 million pixels, and the final message tells you how many pages were reduced. The JPGs are pictures: there is no text recognition (OCR), so the text on them cannot be selected or copied.

Can I convert just one page?

Yes. Type its number in Pages and you get a single JPG instead of a ZIP.

What happens if I change a setting halfway?

The running conversion is stopped and its result thrown away, so you never download pictures made with the old settings. Press Convert again to start over.

Is it free?

Yes, with no account and no watermark on the pictures.

Related Converters

For the opposite direction, JPG to PDF collects images into one PDF. PDF to Word takes the text out of a PDF, and Merge PDF joins several PDFs. All of them run in ClearConvert, which handles ten kinds of conversion.
